Coincidence?

This has been bothering me for the past few days. I have this nagging feeling these actions are related. Since they followed rather quickly. And I don't think this latest barrage is over.

1-NYC terror warning
2- Cyber attack on the DOD / Pentagon
3- Mumbai terror attack

The liberals are coming out of the cold

They disappeared for a while from the blogosphere to drink Kool-aid and vote for free cheese. But now they are back to blogging. Since they can't push doorbells and blog. That would be multitasking and the unions don't allow that. Forget work. They didn't before the economic downturn, and they cetainly won't now. So what are they complaining about now? The sasme as always plus:

budget cuts, unfair. boo hoo. we need more bread and circuses.

And though I still can't get in a nice discussion, only attacked for not being one of "them", I have yet to be banned. I used to be banned for less from those sites. But I guess in the economic turndown, they take what they can get.

The Epitome of I'm Entitled to

If you spend money to attend a university in the hope of achieving a particular degree and fail to do so you don't get a refund. There is no guarantee. (at least not yet) So why does this putz think he is entitled to a refund when he fails?

Dress Code

Quite often one must consider what is the appropriate attire for a particular function. And a Saturday night in Midtown Manhattan with folks who barely notice more than the weather changes, never mind the economy, certainly notice what one is sporting. Fortunately for me, I have daughters. Fortunately for now that is. So the first guest to arrive to my younger's birthday beach and swim party tonight showed up in a friggin gray Lamborghini, my dream car. Another happens to be close family friends with Barry Obama from college, even though their politics differ. I prepared filet mignon wraps, grilled egglant and baby portobello wraps for the vegans, and other delicacies. And even some Russian vodka which my Russian guests haven't even seen before. (A gift from a very grateful neighbor).

And I greeted everyone in my Levis and Annie's Inferno teeshirt. They can all eat me. sometimes the little things are so, so sweet.

Fuhrer Bloomberg refuses to release the $400 real estate tax refunds which the city council put into law and were supposed to go out Oct 1st to homeowners. He cited they didn't have enough money to pay for things. Excuse me Mr Mayor. If I don't have money to pay my taxes AND eat you tell me I have to pay out first regardless of the city's fiscal health. Hump Day Humor

A VERY loud, unattractive, butt-ugly, mean-acting woman walked into Wal-Mart with her two kids, & was yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance.

The Wal-Mart Greeter said pleasantly "Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?"

The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say "Hell no they ain't. The oldest one's 9 and the other one's 7.Why the hell would you think they're twin's? Are you blind, or just stupid?"

"I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am," replied the greeter. "I just couldn't believe you got laid twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart."

Whether or not I agree with his politics, I find this to be disgusting. Mr Obama has been elected our next President and I will support him as long as he remains our leader in good faith with our American ideals. But even if I find myself at odds with his actions, I would never have my children, or anyone else, espouse such hate.

More than half of family physicians would give up their practices for something else if they had the chance. Only 2% of medical students are willing to become primary care physicians. All this is due to insurance industry and gov't regulations both out of control. Now that it is evident that one needs to fend for oneself and family, it would be prudent to learn basic cooking skills with minimal preparation and time.

Where's our future energy policy?

No doubt now that the avg. gas price is now $2.20 will mean no talk of wind farms, atomic energy, coal natural gas, solar or drilling until the the MidEast starts raping us again. Isn't now the time to put people to work building this infrastructure for the future? People can't just work at Starbucks (stock down 97%). Want to bet the Republicans will be blamed for that too when the time comes?

So after all this we aren't buying 'toxic' loans afterall?

I am just shocked at this. This bailout was sold to the American people that if we do not buy up bad loans the world of going to end and do not feel bad because at the end of the day we might even make money. That was September.

This is now.

Dow continues freefall

After China dumping more good money after bad on the markets, the Dow which opened almost 500 points up is now down about 75 points. Typically after a presidential election, the stock market tends to rise regardless of whom gets elected. Not so this time. It looks like the markets don't see anything to be bullish about, even with oil down. The bar was nearly empty on Saturday night, as were the others in the area, which only one year ago would be packed on a Saturday night. In additon to my retirement money no longer there neither are the few tip dollars. Where is my bailout? Will I have to move to *gasp* Queens and move back in with my 94 year old mother?

Next wave of mortgage foreclosures due to hit

About 7.5 million more homes carry a higher mortgage than what the homes are actually worth today. Meaning if one had to sell, they would need to bring a check to the closing. Meanwhile the Dow appears to be taking another dead cat bounce today as speculators with a little money left are trying to buy up some underfunded stocks. Dow Continues to Respond in the Negative

At this time the Dow is down another 5% in addition to the 5% drop yesterday negating the gains of last week. Mortgage rates continue to climb amidst all this turmoil. Oil is down again. But since fewer people have homes to heat and jobs to drive to, I doubt that is much consolation. About 40 minutes to market close in NY.

President Elect Obama

I am not be like the hateful democrats or republicans who when their candidates lose goes on the attack just out of anger. The new administraion will either earn my support or disappointment on their individual merit. The people have spoken.

The anger directed at the Bush administration has several facets. Questionable elections, 9/11, war, conspiracty theories, big oil and an economic meltdown were no help to his legacy. Much of the problem was that the republicans in general only made weak attempts at PR while the democrats went on the attack before the last dangling chad had fallen. The fact that the economy was set to burst and that burst came sooner rather than later was due to other economic pressures (eg: war costs, oil prices). Without these added burdens to the economy it is likely there would have been bigger collapse within a few more years of active growth and overextension of credit. Most likely during a later administration, and Obama would likely still be an up and coming obscure senator.

Obama is inheriting some major problems set in place not only by Bush, but in all fairness, Clinton and previous administrations and Congresses which, for self-promotion, piled the problems on. Now Obama will have to deal with these previous policies and attempt to straighten them out.

I still wonder if the campaigns were over issues, judgment, substance and record, whether he would have won. To say race wasn't a major factor is ridiculous. Minorities revelled in his campaign and election way out of proportion to whites. And whites were voting out of trying to show that they are progressive as far as racial factors are concerned. I would have prefered a truly colorblind election to be on the issues. The fact that he is African-American should just have been a footnote.

As far as I am concerned, the bar is set very low for his presidency. His greatest accomplishment may have already passed, being elected to the White House. If he does nothing else, but continue to vote "present" and give an occassional inspiring speech, his name will be on high schools yet to be built, books yet to be written, and airports. His face will be on a stamp. If things get any worse over his first term, Bush will still bear the blame. If things improve, even slightly, he will be revered.

Whatever is in store for America still appears to be a big question mark. I feel that as we observe who Obama selects to be his transition team, we may get a glimpse in to what will come. I also think he has only one "change" speech left in him (his inaugeral address) before that rhetoric needs to change. And although I don't agree with his apparent ideology, I won't be like the Bush haters and start attacking. I will try to be even handed and won't reward points to any side until I see what happens.

Introduction

The administrator of this site suggested I introduce myself. I am "Archie". I'm told I bear a resemblence to Carroll O'Connor. Therefore, I will go with that. My friend asked me if I would take over administrative duties in his absence here. I'm not too sure what is involved since I am new to blogging. He told me it pretty much takes care of itself and to let the folks here do what they do without being judgmental. And that I should suggest some topics, join in and learn from all of you. So I'll give it a try. He also gave me access to the email account that he uses for blogging and that you all already know what it is. I'm looking forward to this experience.

Coleman razor thin lead over Franken

In an automatic recount Republican Coleman has a 0.02% edge over Al Franken, the unfunny commedic writer. That's 2 hundredths of 1%. A third candidate who syphoned off mainly Republican votes is seen as a potential spoiler in this as yet undertermined race.

Explaination

It appears I may or may not have inadvertantly been the one who violated Annie's rules. The thread which was removed included 2 items which I posted which may or may not have contained info. The first was a posting of my own complaint to typepad. The second was a response to someone who asked, and I'll paraphrase, "why is so and so out for me"? I googled the name and posted the facebook link that came up. I think that may have been the issue. And, although I don't know if that is the case, and I sent a note of apology to Annie. I have received no response. Therefore, I can only assume it was I who may have inadvertantly posted something with no malicious intent. On the contrary, I thought someone actually had been gunning for one of us and I provided the "google link". I did not post the name, or any other info, but I posted the link to the name that someone else had already posted.Well it appears that whatever the reason. Whether these 2 possibilities were in fact a violation, or if it something else I have done, or if it is all in my mind I can not say. I have not heard back from Annie, so I can only assume she feels I maliciously posted something that I am completely unaware of.This site (here)I had previously set up well prior to Annie moving the typepad site. I did not use it before because it is linked with another blog concerning my condo politics and I did not want that info to cross. The imminent election and typepad woes, along with being left at the alter as far as posting on Annie's convinced me to activate this site as a backup.I have no desire to overstay my welcome nor do I wish to compete with her site. Therefore, I will recuse myself from any further blogging.

We are about to see what the left has in store for us. The empty promises of campaign rhetoric are about to give way to the hidden agenda of Obama's minions. After Jan 2oth, when the prom dresses are put away, and the hangovers are being nursed, our reality will be bearing down on us. I'm afraid of what is to come. When reality dawns on many of his followers, it will be too late to put the genie back in the bottle. Where will we be as individuals and as a nation 4 years from now? How much longer will the left point their collective fingers at George Bush and say it was all his fault?

Plumbing

(thanks Neal)

Barack Obama discovers a leak under his sink, so he calls Joe the Plumber to come and fix it.Joe drives to Obama's house, which is located in a very nice neighborhood and where it's clear that all the residents make more than $250,000 (I think its down to $100,000 now) per year.Joe arrives and takes his tools into the house. Joe is led to the room that contains the leaky pipe under a sink. Joe assesses the problem and tells Obama, who is standing near the door, that it's an easy repair that will take less than 10 minutes.Obama asks Joe how much it will cost.Joe immediately says, "$9,500.""$9,500?" Obama asks, stunned. "But you said it's an easy repair!""Yes, but what I do is charge a lot more to my clients who make more than $250,000 per year so I can fix the plumbing of everybody who makes less than that for free," explains Joe. "It's always been my philosophy. As a matter of fact, I lobbied government to pass this philosophy as law, and it did pass earlier this year, so now all plumbers have to do business this way. It's known as 'Joe's Fair Plumbing Act of 2008.' Surprised you haven't heard of it, senator."In spite of that, Obama tells Joe there's no way he's paying that much for a small plumbing repair, so Joe leaves.Obama spends the next hour flipping through the phone book looking for another plumber, but he finds that all other plumbing businesses listed have gone out of business. Not wanting to pay Joe's price, Obama does nothing. The leak under Obama's sink goes unrepaired for the next several days.A week later the leak is so bad that Obama has had to put a bucket under the sink. The bucket fills up quickly and has to be emptied every hour, and there's a risk that the room will flood, so Obama calls Joe and pleads with him to return.Joe goes back to Obama's house, looks at the leaky pipe, and says "Let's see - this will cost you about $21,000.""A few days ago you told me it would cost $9,500!" Obama quickly fires back.Joe explains the reason for the dramatic increase. "Well, because of the 'Joe's Fair Plumbing Act,' a lot of rich people are learning how to fix their own plumbing, so there are fewer of you paying for all the free plumbing I'm doing for the people who make less than $250,000. As a result, the rate I have to charge my wealthy paying customers rises every day."Not only that, but for some reason the demand for plumbing work from the group of people who get it for free has skyrocketed, and there's a long waiting list of those who need repairs. This has put a lot of my fellow plumbers out of business, and they're not being replaced - nobody is going into the plumbing business because they know they won't make any money. I'm hurting now too - all thanks to greedy rich people like you who won't pay their fair share."Obama tries to straighten out the plumber: "Of course you're hurting, Joe! Don't you get it? If all the rich people learn how to fix their own plumbing and you refuse to charge the poorer people for your services, you'll be broke, and then what will you do?"Joe immediately replies, "Run for president, apparently."
